Church Anthems Christmas Carols

A selection of Bernard Trafford’s Church Anthems

O praise God in his holiness*
This festal setting of the 150th Psalm was written for a wedding in 1995 (in eight parts for the glorious acoustic of Bath Abbey where this première performance was recorded and sounds magnificent, even with just one voice per part). Most of that original version is actually in seven parts: the sopranos divide only for the final chord. The piece is now available for SATB. Both versions are unaccompanied.

O sing unto the Lord a new song
A joyous setting of Psalm 96, another wedding commission, originally written for SAAB (the voices available for the occasion): published for standard SATB, but also available for the original ensemble. Unaccompanied.

You are the light of the world*
The text for this piece draws on the various references in the Sermon on the Mount and elsewhere to Christians as ‘the light of the world’: it ties in with the motto of the city of Wolverhampton (‘light out of darkness’), whose civic church, St Peter’s Collegiate Church, celebrated its millennium in 1994 when this piece was written. This piece is now available in both the leaner SATB version and in the original seven parts (SSATTBB): unaccompanied.
